Opera Producer
The
production of Iolanthe will again be in the capable production of
Steven Andrews. Steve is a very experienced actor having appeared in
multitudes of operettas, grand operas and plays over more years than he cares to
remember. Most recently for the society, he has portrayed Major General in
Pirates, Despard in
Ruddigore, Poo-Bah in Mikado and King Gama in Princess Ida. Other notable
portrayals have been in grand opera at the Crucible, Sheffield and in award
winning productions at the International G&S Festival at Buxton. With
Steve's acid wit, rehearsals are likely to be entertaining and we look forward
to giving him our full support.
Play Producer
The last play was produced by Caroline
Oakley. Caroline has appeared in
plays
at
Birley Carr for over 25 years and is a highly experienced actress. She
enjoyed transferring her talents to the 'other side of the footlights' and
directed the very successful 'Murdered to Death' presented in October 2007 and
Lord Arthur Savile's Crime in 2008.
We were saddened by the recent death of Janet
Otter. Janet had been an acting member of the society for many years but
in recent times had transferred her skills to 'front of house' and in assisting
her daughter Helen with the duties of Ticket Secretary. Her ready wit and
enthusiasm during rehearsals will be missed by all. Our thoughts are with
John and Helen and their families.
