Welcome
to the Grenoside Players web site!

The Grenoside Players are a group
of enthusiastic amateurs who have a love of the theatre and in
particular, taking part in productions of plays. The group was
formed around 50 years ago and comprises about 30 members, who live in the North
Sheffield area of South Yorkshire.
The Players present popular plays
in May and November of each year. Plays are staged in Grenoside
Community Centre which is located about 8 Km from Sheffield City centre,
about 3 km north of Sheffield Wednesday Hillsborough Football
ground. The group is an integral section of the Community Centre
and benefits from all of the facilities available in the building.
The facilities
available for the society include a generously sized stage and a
hall with a seating capacity of up to 200 people. It is of great
advantage that rehearsals can take place on the stage where the
productions are presented. We thank
our local community for the continuing support that they give our
presentations.
The society presented
'A Pack of Lies' by Hugh
Whitmore in November 2006. The play was a
dramatized version of real life events surrounding Peter & Helen
Kruger, who whilst masquerading as a conventional couple living in
suburbia, were in fact spying for Russia. This was followed by a 'Murder Mystery evening held in April 2007 and this was very popular and
well received by our patrons. In November 2007, we presented 'Plaza
Suite' by Neil Simon. This play portrayed three unconnected
short plays that all occurred in the same room at the Plaza Hotel
through three different sets of hotel residents. Our last
production in April 2008 was 'The Farndale Ladies
Murder mystery play' which was well received. We thank our community
for the support given to the production and the kind remarks regarding
the standard of presentation that was achieved.
New members who
wish to take part in plays are always welcome to attend rehearsals and
with a view to participating in productions. Rehearsals are
held on Wednesday evenings at 8-00 pm with additional rehearsals on
Monday evenings nearer the date of the production.
We always need
assistance in the productions either front stage or backstage
and your help would be warmly welcomed. Please contact the
webmaster if you are interested or come along to a rehearsal.
We were delighted
to receive confirmation from the National Lottery 'Awards for All' fund
of the grant us funds to seek to involve the community in our
play presentations. We ran an 'acting workshop' using
professional tutors to give coaching in acting & stage skills.
This course was well attended and was a most enjoyable and fulfilling
acting experience. A further course was held in May
2008.
